Flowers in their Footsteps

How a crowdfund led to a new vision

We have been custodians of the crowdfund following the Youth Strike 4 Climate rally on College Green led by Greta Thunberg in 2020. Now our role is to co-ordinate an innovative partnership between our charity, Bristol Cathedral, Bristol City Council, Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate and the Avon Wildlife Trust. Together we are creating wilder habitats on College Green.
In Spring 2021 volunteers helped create meadows alongside the Cathedral by planting thousands of wildflowers with over 50 different native species. Later in the year trees and hedging will be added. This new wilder habitat will provide food and shelter for at least 2,000 species attracting many more pollinators.

Who else is involved?

Young people from Bristol Cathedral School and Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate are observing nature and developing ideas to support the project into the future. A wider learning programme is planned to explore the biodiversity of the space.

Thank you

Thank you to all those who have donated so far as individuals or organisations and to the volunteers who gave their time and energy to help with planting.

We are grateful to photographer Simon Holliday for documenting the project to create a wilder habitat on College Green.
